The power of Turmeric


Native rhizome of India and South Asia. It is beneficial for all the three doshas Vata, Pitta and Kapha. It is bitter, astringent and pungent and has a hot and pungent post-digestive effect. It is light and dry which is extremely good for kapha. It balances the three doshas but if consumed in excess it unbalances Vata and Pitta. It can be used in Raw or in cooked form externally or internally. It has been scientifically proven that its antiseptic action is very beneficial for open wounds, insect bites, to stop bleeding, eczema, acne and other skin problems. It can be used as steam to clean the eyes. It also acts as a natural antibiotic. If taken as drink boiling half a teaspoon with a glass of milk it is beneficial for throat pain, cough and cold and weekness. One can chew a piece of its root for intestinal disorders . It stimulates the digestion and balances intestinal fluids. It also serves as a body cleanser and it is very effective in diabetes and allergies. It is also used in amenorrhea, anemia and poor blood circulation. It is a very effective remedy in heart coditions and a wonderful natural blood thinner.

Some of the way one can take turmeric: Making a tea just boiling it in water, adding honey and lemon juice for respiratory disorders.

Use it everyday and every meal spice adding 1/4th to half a teaspoon in Soups, main dishes especially with meats, lentils, sauces, rice preparations as it makes the food easily digestible, please note it has a rich yellow color and add it in moderation as it enhances the flavor but if used in excess it will make it little bitter.
